Glimpses on execution of  electrical works

       The electrical works are generally divided in following types 

1. Supply of electrical materials

2. Annual maintenance contracts (AMC) of electrical works

3. New permanent electrification works

4. Temporary electrification works

Supply of electrical materials

    Supply mode of works are generally carried out when tender inviter already has appointed maintenance agency or technical support agency or it has it's own workforce to execute the electrical works. Supply of electrical materials has to go through competitive bidding through government portals created for such a type of bidding. Generally Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is the portal which has been a nodal portal for execution of such supply mode works. GeM (https://gem.gov.in/) is nothing but a simple portal like Amazon, Flipkart, Alibaba etc where you can browse the material you want and the competitive prices will be quoted by various vendors.

Annual maintenance contracts (AMC) of electrical works

        In many cases like in hospitals, government offices etc. you need urgent repairs. There remains no time to invite bidders to bid for the works. The process of inviting tender for each small repair takes more than 10 days. Hence to get this work done, the contracts are made such a that on need the work will be executed according to the quoted rates and the contract is independent of quantity of work. The AMCs are generally preferred when you need regular electrical works like fan repair, AC repairs, illumination maintenance and so on. AMCs are invited yearly. The rates of each work is quoted by  bidder. The rates which are quoted least with assurance of quality are refined through the competitive process and the tender is allotted to the cheapest one. 

        Each government department like PWD, CPWD, ZPs, ULBs and public sector enterprises do engage in this type of contracts. The contracts are generally invited online from the sites like mahatenders.gov.in and many others. Some institutions may invite the tenders offline if the value of contracts is in few lac. But inviting tenders online is recommended, competitive and more transparent process.

New permanent electrification works

        This category of works are with more capital investment. The contract values are generally high.
